Felixstowe is Britain’s busiest container port. It handles about four million TEU a year, and the thing that goes wrong there is almost never the sea leg. It is the collection: a booking that was not made in time, a driver turned away at the gate, a box sitting on the quay while its free time runs out.

Jagelo Haulage has moved more than 75,000 containers since 2019 and moves about 13,000 a year, and more of them come through Felixstowe than any other port. The yard at Bridge Farm, Woolpit, is about 35 miles along the A14, so our vehicles start the day close to the gate rather than two hours away from it.

What we move

Containers we collect from Felixstowe

The everyday work is 20ft and 40ft boxes on our own skeletal trailers. The rest each change the vehicle, the route or the paperwork, which is why the quote form asks about them up front.

20ft, 40ft and 45ft: Standard and high cube, to ISO dimensions. The bulk of what leaves the port on our vehicles.
Overweight: Planned against axle weights and the route, so the load is legal on the road as well as on paper.

How it runs

Getting your box off the quay at Felixstowe

Felixstowe runs every collection through its Container Booking System, which replaced the old VBS in January 2025. A collection is only as good as the booking behind it, so this is where the work is.

Release and clearance

You tell us the container number and shipping line. We check the box is released by the line and cleared by customs before anything is booked against it.
The CBS booking

We book a timed slot on CBS for your container, against its availability and your free time rather than the first slot going. For imports, changes inside the last 12 hours can be charged, so we book once and book right.
Collection

Our driver arrives in the booked window with the details CBS already holds. If a booking is at risk, from a delayed vessel or a hold, you hear it from us while there is still time to act.
Delivery and the empty

Delivered to your postcode on the agreed day. The empty goes back to wherever the shipping line nominates, so tell us the return depot if you know it: it changes the price.

Same day collection and delivery is realistic on the shorter lanes when the booking allows it. On longer runs we tell you honestly at quote stage whether it is same day or next morning, rather than promise the first and deliver the second.

Free time is the real cost

Demurrage starts when the shipping line’s free time ends and is charged per container per day. Port storage runs separately. On a delayed box, the days it sat on the quay usually cost more than the haulage. We plan collections against the free time you actually have, and say so early when a box is at risk.

What stands behind a Felixstowe collection

The same freight liability limit on every box, whether it moves on our vehicle or a partner’s. Partners run on their own operator licences.

Freight liability: £6,500 per tonne; Under RHA 2024 conditions, five times the RHA standard of £1,300. Subcontracted loads carry the same limit. Up to £10,000 per tonne by arrangement for high value freight.

How quickly can you collect from Felixstowe?

Often the same working day, when the container is released and a CBS booking is available. Our yard at Woolpit is about 35 miles from the port, so reaching the gate is not the hard part. When a booking is not available we tell you the realistic day rather than book something that fails at the gate.

Who books the CBS slot, you or us?

We do. The booking is made against your container, so what we need from you is the container number, the shipping line and confirmation that the box is released and customs cleared. If any of that changes inside the 12 hours before an import booking, tell us straight away: late changes can carry a port charge.

Do you handle overweight containers out of Felixstowe?

Yes. Overweight boxes are planned against the axle configuration and the route so they are legal on the road, not only on paper. Tell us the gross weight at quote stage, because it changes the vehicle.

Can you move hazardous containers from Felixstowe?

Send the UN number and class with the request for a price and we will confirm whether we can take it before we quote. Hazardous work changes the vehicle and the paperwork, so it is never something to mention on the day.

Do you deliver nationwide from Felixstowe?
